Diplomatic incident:

Im sorry to announce that there will be no Incident this spring. A few minor details have sprung up, like Jack, my cohost, and his wife having just had their first baby, my having my fourth due in early June, my having a nasty 12 hour work schedule, and Jack living in an apartment while his house is remodeled to accommodate the new member. We do plan to be back by the fall though.

Deadlines:

Tinamou appears in every other TAP. The game deadlines are always the Monday before the appropriate TAP deadline, which is always a Saturday. See TAP for the dates.

Breaking Away: Tour de Farce. Turn 8

A big crowd at the front this time. A tiny little gap breaks up the two lead packs and prevents a whole lot of 15s from being distributed. Nekayah tries to sneak a big card, but miscalculates, and the stragglers bring up the rear.

Imlac to Carter: I'm not from Abyssinia, I'm from an Egyptian trading family, haven't you been paying attention??? Prince Rasselas already has gotten out of Abyssinia to explore the World, I am his philosophical guide.

Boob to Goz: Sorry to have "told you so" about Reagan, but I saw it coming. I hope he still can ride after his operation, but not TOO fast.

Boob to Late Night Characters: That's better, now just stay away from my sprint points!! Stacy can lay back now, thank you very much.

Boob to Goz: Here's to having to distinguish between the ex-President Bushes very, very soon......

SV Clinton -> Nation: Hey, everybody! Hillary in 2008! We're going to move back to DC! Nee-hah! Excuse me - we're going to enjoy a nice dinner tonight on our new china!

Stacy -> Pres. Bush: can you give me the address for your newphew/grandson George? I'm a big fan!

Moron -> World: I see the next line! Mountain Time Zone, here we come!

Segue Sam -> World: As a master of transitions, I can assure you that I was _not_ in charge of the Presidential election.

Triumph -> Boob: You think I would put myself in a position where people can draft me? Only if I've had some beefaroni first!

Triumph -> GM: coming up with material for these guys was a lot easier when I could watch Conan at 11 p.m., and not 12:30 a.m. I've got to move back to prime time!

GM Triumph. Hey, at this point Id take ANY time!

Bush to Pekuah: Ok, I'll go for the intellectual stimulation, but after that I'm thinking a couple of brews and a little skirt-chasing.

Clinton to Bush: Hey! That's MY line!

Carter to Clinton: Bill! How come you're going so fast now?!? You don't want to lead the pack do you?

Clinton to Carter: I'm avoiding the prosecuters now that I'm out of office. Besides, I've had practice avoiding the draft.

Bush to Reagan: Ron, that was a nasty fall. Are you ok?

Reagan to Bush: Hey, I'm too *hip* to be injured.

[Gerald Ford has hitched a ride in the escort vehicle, but as he leans out the passenger window to shout to the team he bangs his head on a sign held by a fan along the road that reads "We Want Kurt!!!". He swallows his whistle again.]

Gerald Ford: TWEEEEET!!!!

And then there were 8. The peace movement takes hold in Austria and the Balkans and they disband their armed forces. Russia visits the Turkish homeland and there are lots of fleets sailing around in the northern waters.

Summer 1905 Retreats

Austria: a tri annihilated

Balkans: a ser annihilated

Babble from the board:

Turkey - Russia: I hope you're not thinking of vacationing south.

GM Turkey: Seems its more of a working trip.

St. Petersburg: An army unit was dispatched to Ankara to protect Russian archeologists who were excavating remains of the ancient Hittite Empire. The archeologists were attacked by hordes of lawless mountain people. It is obvious the Turkish govenment was unable or unwilling to protect them.

France - Germany: If we could find a way to kiss and make up, maybe we could live happily ever after.

Germany - France: tee-hee, it's coming soon...

GM France: Is he thinking what youre thinking?

France - Spain: Want to ally with them? Be my guest...

Spain to France--If we kick the german out of Piedmont, he'll just retreat to Venice. If Italy covered Venice with a build, then I'll support you to Piedmont next turn.

Austria - Russia: Oh, that explains everything. Well, any moment now, my German buddy will come riding to my rescue and break your hold over the Balkans!

Austria - Germany: OK, I don't really believe that because you've been a real jerk this game.

Germany - Italy: I really don't have any intention of attacking you. If I get dislodged from Piedmont, I will disband before I retreat further into your territory. My apologies for the temporary intrusion.

Rome-Germany: I notice your attempt to get out of the Piedmont, would you like some help? If this war ends fast will you turn east?

Spain to Germany--I considered stabbing the French, but since you are so cozy with the Russian you have nowhere else to expand but in my direction. And soon Russia will have no other options but to attack you too. Ouch.

Germany - Spain: Between you, me, and maybe Italy, we can take the entire board west of Vienna and then hit the Steamroller.

GM to Germany: Seems to me the Steamroller just hit itself!

Germany - Italy: How does that sound to you?

Germany - England: I hope that you are able to stick around to

reclaim your island, but if not, it was great while it lasted.

Norse to Krauts---Hey! Maybe you gif me back my home dot I like you again. Den we can try to keep dese pesky spanglos from gobbling up de whole northland!

Germany - Scandinavia: Will you last until this winter? It's

looking bleak. Can't say that upsets me. I'll have a pickled herring in your memory.

Germany - Russia: You know, if you'd like to lend a support from Pie into Swi, I wouldn't mind...if you're not busy.

Norse to Frogs---Bonjour, oui oui, and sacre bleu! We learn language of our new friends. We be now proper french pierates. Help new friends to Belgium and Holland. Found secret invasion plans in Tower of London. Plan looks sehr gut, even if it is English. Wanna try it mon ami?

Norse to Spangloes---Stop pushing me around. Let me keep a few dots so I can fight Krauts for you. Go back to your nice warm little Mediterranean pond.

Spain to Italy--I left Tunis vacant as a show of good faith, not a papal gift. I have other pressing matters now, so I will forgive your transgression. Be advised, any further westward movement by your fleets will force me to recall the armada. Maybe a pope in Avingnon wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Rome-Spain: I would much rather keep my forces east against the Russian and the Turk, if you force me west we both lose.

Spain to Russia--Who's YOUR buddy?

Rome-World: Due to Spain's threats we must conduct defensive maneuvers in the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Rome-Turkey: Why did Russia really put the fleet in the Black Sea? Can we just have status quo and co-operate against the big Slav?

Rome-France: I agree with Spain's question, why aren't we allied against Russia and Turkey?

Rome-Russia: Will you at least remain peaceful with me?

Russia-Italy: Stop your whining. Spain will get you now and you deserve it!

Game Openings:

A few more players have joined the lists, but we are still woefully short of a new game. Only 7 game starts last year that Conrad registered. Come on now, prove that this hobby isnt dying!!

Snowball fighting

Well either make dirigbles do less damage, or harder to hit with to try and make snowballs more viable. Come on now, join in the fun and sharpen your press pencils! Will start next issue, join up now!

Signed up: Harry Andrushak, John Schultz, Rick Desper

Jim Burgess, Richard Weiss

Perestroika Diplomacy: Add an economic twist to the classic game. Centers generate revenue, armies and fleets must be maintained, treasuries can be sacked! Rules are available on request.

Signed up: Art Schleinkofer, Phil Reynolds, Jack McHugh

Outpost: An economic game where you decide which resources to purchase and try to keep your colony viable. Its a race to generate the most income, but resources are limited and you have to bid against the other players for them.

Signed up: Sara Reichert, Jack McHugh

Standard Diplomacy: Nothing new, nothing novel. The only twist to this game is that I strongly encourage players without email to join up. The long deadlines make it easier to get those negotiations in. That is not to say that I do not want people with email joining, but please do not do so unless you are prepared to negotiate fully with those people who dont have email and rely on the Postal Service.

Signed up: Phil Reynolds

Black Hole Diplomacy: Watch the spaces disappear and the trips to the other side of the board get shorter and shorter. No stalemate lines in this variant. Great for those who like a free for all.

Signed up: Jack McHugh

Just the results please: Dont really know what to call this one as I just came up with it. Perhaps its been tried before. The twist for this variant is that each season only the ending unit positions are published, not the orders. Youll know who went where, but not who helped whom, or want may have been tried unsuccessfully.

Signed up: Phil Reynolds

Readers Choice: Im open to anything, just send me the rules and if I think I can run it, Ill offer it.
